to be

cease
your endless machinations. your heart
is roaring with an eagerness
to beat in the world that is
not ready.

the grass has not yet been blown
into its proper place, the wind has
not finished combing the hills, and
the sun is not finished with teaching
the moon how to fill your eyes
to bring you back to me

the buildings have yet to commit
to memory their positions, orientations
yet to attach the signages
the people who will guide you in the world
yet to attach themselves to it, floundering
against the stark and gentle seabreeze

the planets are squabbling,
the stars are preoccupied with racing
across the rippling lake, which is
still busy folding its tides neat
in preparation for you
your endless curiosity, your endlessness

the earth is still busy hiding its secrets
so you can discover them again and again
the way you are now, as you touch
my hands, solve the maze of my fingerprints

all this to say, what a shame
you already are.
